Every business has a story, and ours begins with one very special dog named Rosie.
Rosie is my grand pup and the face behind the Barkday Treats logo. When she first came home, I did what so many new dog parents and grandparents do. I started reading the ingredient labels on dog food and treats.
To be honest, I was overwhelmed.
I could not believe some of the ingredients I was finding, and I quickly realized how difficult it was to find simple, wholesome treats made with ingredients I recognized and trusted.
As Rosie's Yiayia, which means grandmother in Greek, I wanted the very best for her.
So, I headed to the kitchen and started baking.
The Beginning of Barkday Treats
What started as homemade treats for one very special pup quickly became something much bigger.
As I continued baking for Rosie, I created our very first treat, the Banana Delight cookie, inspired by one of her favourite things, bananas.
Friends and family began asking for treats for their own dogs, and before long, Barkday Treats was born.
Today, Barkday Treats has grown into an Ontario dog bakery specializing in handcrafted, gluten free dog treats, dog birthday cakes, pupcakes, and celebration treats made with simple, human grade ingredients.
Why We Chose Simple Ingredients
At Barkday Treats, we believe our dogs are family, and family deserves the very best.
From the very beginning, I knew I wanted to create treats using simple, wholesome, human grade ingredients that I recognized and trusted. If I would not feel good about serving an ingredient to my own family, I certainly would not want it in Rosie's treats.
That philosophy continues to guide every recipe we create.
Our treats are handcrafted in small batches in Ontario using carefully selected ingredients because we believe dogs deserve real food made with ingredients pet parents can feel good about.
While treats should always be enjoyed in moderation, we are proud to create gluten free dog treats and dog birthday cakes made with simple ingredients and a whole lot of love.
After all, every celebration starts with caring for the ones we love, and our dogs deserve nothing less.
The Cookie That Started It All
Our Banana Delight cookie will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Not only was it the very first treat we created, but it was inspired by Rosie's love of bananas.
Even today, it remains one of our most popular treats and a reminder of how Barkday Treats began.
Why Bananas?
When creating our very first cookie, the choice was easy. Rosie absolutely loved bananas.
But bananas are more than just a tasty treat for dogs.
Bananas contain potassium, vitamin B6, vitamin C, and fibre, making them a nutritious ingredient that many dogs enjoy in moderation. They are a simple, recognizable ingredient that many pet parents already know and love.
That is one of the reasons our Banana Delight cookie has remained a favourite from the very beginning. It is a reminder that sometimes the simplest ingredients can create something truly special.
As with any treat, every dog is unique, so we always recommend introducing new foods gradually and speaking with your veterinarian if you have questions about your pup's specific dietary needs.
More Than Just a Dog Bakery
What started in my kitchen for one special pup has grown into something I could have never imagined.
Today, Barkday Treats helps dog parents across Ontario celebrate birthdays, gotcha days, holidays, and everyday moments with handcrafted dog treats, dog birthday cakes, pupcakes, and celebration treats.
Every cookie, every pupcake, and every celebration cake is still inspired by Rosie and made with the same love that started it all.
